1st Woosehill’s Kestrels Cub Pack went paddling along the Kennett and Avon Canal on Monday 11th September. They played games in canoes and learned how to operate the locks. Big thank you to all who turned out to help including the manager of the Cunning Man pub who let us use his car-park. To avoid any capsize we lashed together canoes on twos, a bit of scouting expertise there, and had a scouter do the steering, we did want to get to the lock eventually. The cubs wound the lock paddles up and down, let the water in and out and opened the gates to an imaginary narrow-boat. We played “keep the ball out of my boat” and arrived back at the Cunning Man just as it got dark. A few of the parents paddled a spare canoe and everyone joined in the fun.
The Kennet & Avon is a great facility paid for by The Scout Association and we should use it more. Want to know how we did this then contact me, [email protected] or come to some of the training planned for the spring as previously announced by Dave Shortland.
