Our scout hut is a fabulous asset and means that the group has a permanent base for all our great activities - however, the hut also gets a lot of hard use and needs regular maintenance to keep it in good shape. As such, the maintenance manager is responsible for ensuring that the hut will remain safe and functional for many years to come.
A practical attitude is useful, but the key responsibility is in making sure that any required work is planned and carried out – not necessarily carrying out the work yourself. Typical work that needs to be managed will include:
- Routine maintenance eg replacing light bulbs, minor repairs to cupboards/doors, upkeep of the grounds
- Regular & periodic testing, ensuring compliance with regulations - eg emergency lights, annual PAT, fire extinguishers
- Improvements & major projects eg kitchen replacement, repainting of the halls
